All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. (Author = Arthur Schopenhauer)

A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it. (Author = Max Planck)

I know that most men, including those at ease with problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth if it be such as would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, which they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabric of their lives. (Author = Tolstoy)

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane. (Author = Marcus Aurelius)

Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored. (Author = Aldous Leonard Huxley)

A universe of flat worlds are just waiting to be rounded.

Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind. (Author = Albert Einstein)

Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal. My strength lies solely in my tenacity. (Author = Louis Pasteur)

We learn more by looking for the answer to a question and not finding it than we do from learning the answer itself. (Author = Lloyd Alexander)

Immortality is harshly selective.

Being first is being immortal.

The only thing standing between me and immortality is time.

Pursing immortality is rational, only if you believe humankind will be around over a million years from now.

Immortality can take years off your life.

Before you do it, remember that death and immortality are both defined by time and place.

If I lived forever, I could be immortal.

"Objectivity" is not exposing the agenda of others while failing to reveal your own.

"Balance" is not countering the opinions of those who know with those who don't know.

"Balance" is not countering truth with lies.

If you are balanced and objective, then no one will remember your name.

The nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred, or an habitual fondness, is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest. (Author = George Washington)

Disclosure without accuracy and context is opacity, not transparency.

Demanding that benefits received be transparent, while allowing benefits rejected to remain invisible does not represent full disclosure. Disclosing the interests of the accused, while hiding the interests of the accuser does not represent full disclosure. Both are half disclosures. A clock that runs 1/2 speed is accurate less of the time than a clock that doesn't run at all.

Infinity, the Universe, and Existence are easy to understand once you realize: (1) nothing is big or small, only bigger or smaller; (2) matter and energy are just two points on the same curve; and (3) time is nothing more than a measuring parameter of speed, except when it defines religion.

Regarding the limitations of space, infinity is easier to understand than finity.

Faith emerges upon the realization that both infinity and finity do not consistently apply to the human experience. Limitlessness cannot be counted. If limits exist, then what is beyond the wall? It is better to trust God has it all sorted out.

I am not an everything; I am not a nothing; but I am a thing. I am not an everybody; I am not a nobody; but I am a somebody.

Whether you are the plan, or part of the plan, depends on perspective.

I am a binary man living in a rainbow world.

If you act with contempt for the time of others, then you are likely incompetent, someone really important, or a doctor.

No statistical model is correct; but some are useful. (Author = George Box)

Statistical analyses cannot assess the accuracy of the data; rather, they can assess the confidence in the variance of the data.

It is the patient who has the disease. (Author = Denise Putuff MD)

Our first inclination is to blame ourselves when patients fail to achieve desired goals. As providers, we certainly should empower patients with medical education and management tools. If you tell them you can't do it because of ethics, security, feasibility, cost, etc., then big business personnel will think you are just being an unreasonable jerk. However, if you attribute your inability to comply on your "institution's policies", even if you just made them up, then they will be more likely work with you as a fellow victim of an immovable bureaucracy.

Any small business correspondence should meet the following criteria: (1) The wording would not change if you sent it tomorrow; (2) You wouldn't mind having it published in a newspaper; and (3) It represents an definitive attempt to get something done in black and white, rather than a chance to use colorful language to illustrative the extreme rainbow ranges of the spoken word.

If you are a successful artist, author, actor, musician, or professional athlete in the first decades of life, then you are worthy of media admiration and entitled to whatever people are willing to pay you. If you are a successful small business person who sacrificed and invested for decades, then you are worthy of media ridicule and a greedy bastard.

It is more productive to tame a lively puppy, then to motivate a dead dog.

Freedom is the ultimate incentive.

Once a business starts and takes root, it automatically makes money. "Risk-taking," "self-sacrifice," and "return on investment," by the owner are meaningless concepts meant to take advantage of the little guy. "Income must exceed expenses" and "business realities" are bogus as well. The only thing standing in the way of you getting more of what you want is your jerk of a boss who is either too lazy or too selfish to simply pick the increased wages and benefits you deserve off the ever fruitful limbs of the corporate money tree.

If you are imposed upon by your employer to help make the business successful, then it is OK to demean and ignore your boss. The profitability of the company is not your problem. Yes, if the business fails, the owner may experience devastating losses of life-long investments in money and career. But for you, you simply find a new job.

Those whose first and only concerns are their benefits and pay when they start employment are immature and short-sighted. Those whose contractual focus is work satisfaction, potential for growth, reward for performance, and what happens when their employment ends are those who wisely believe tomorrow's happiness is more valuable than today's paycheck.

When a woman employee of child-bearing potential becomes nauseated or light-headedness, or has an unexplained doctor's appointment, she is pregnant.

As an employer, the best way to express your commitment to a "woman friendly" workplace is often to be mute on the matter. Telling a woman employee her pregnancy is OK with you, and she should feel free to become pregnant whenever she wants, may not be received in the way you hoped.

No good can come from a call at 3 o'clock in the morning. (Author = Kathy Schmitz)

As an employer, don't ask an employee to stay once they quit. As an employee, don't quit with the anticipation that the employer will ask you to stay.

Its not always about you.

Employees who worship the devil are likely to steal your pencils.

Most errors and turmoil do not occur when an otherwise excellent staff is too busy, but rather when they don't have enough to do.

It is difficult to manage employee concerns of being overworked, underappreciated, and being frustrated that their input doesn’t seem to matter, when the same employees decline help, dismiss praise, and get defensive when asked for their opinion.

As your therapist, I am confident your unhappiness is not due to your family, life circumstance or anything to do with you. Rather, it is solely due to your job. If you change jobs, then all your anxiety should melt away in a rainbow stream of ecstasy. If it doesn't, then the problem is your new job.

One way to lighten your workload is to be so unreliable that others find it more efficient to do things themselves.

If the staff has time to talk about another employee, then that is not the time to talk about hiring another employee.

While I will eventually get around to fixing the problem, my best initial response to a mistake that cost the company time and money is to go out in the hallway to talk it and brood about it, and then if possible, go to each and every other employee and spend their time asking for advice how I can improve my poor work efficiency, my failure to focus, and my lack of productivity.

The 3 basic rules regarding very poor service from a vendor include: (1) If the vendor can easily be replaced, then replace the vendor; (2) If the vendor can't be easily replaced, then your complaint correspondence should begin and end with a specific, yet reasonable request for restitution; and (3) If the vendor can't easily be replaced, and you can think of no reasonable request for restitution, then feel free to send a spiritual complaint that explores the philosophical landscape of right versus wrong. While it is unlikely that it will matter to anyone of importance - you should keep a copy of your newly penned manifesto to review the next time you or your staff screws up.

To lead and win the war as an employer, you must have blind trust in the supporting army of loyal employees and associates standing firmly behind you. You must also expect to lose a battle or two upon getting impaled in the back.

Never terminate an employee to satisfy another employee. The employee who covertly savages a colleague is often the same one most openly stunned and outraged when the co-worker is fired, and likely the one who bakes the sympathy going-away cake

Entitlement rarely loses its nature. Upon falling from celestial pedestals, the cries of the arrogant are often not tears of remorse for past deeds or regrets for prior condescension, but instead, childish whinings from the painful impact with the real world.

True and false claims of sexually inappropriate behavior are equally egregious, with each being more about power and control than about sex.

A cornerstone of the US judicial system is the axiom derived from English jurist William Blackstone: "Better that 10 guilty men go free than to convict a single innocent man." Exceptions to this rule are false accusations of inappropriate behavior against your staff, wherein: "Better that 10 innocent men be convicted than to let a single guilty man go free." Need proof? How many companies have "Sexual and Racial Discrimination Policies and Procedures" that protect the rights of the wrongfully accused?

To some elites, enlightenment is defined as embracing the evils of those perceived as disadvantaged, and wrongfully accusing those believed to be privileged, who look a lot like elites.

No matter how progressive you are as a man, and no matter how progressive the workplace you create for women, if you stay in business long enough, you will encounter a woman executive who believes and acts on the assumption that all your men employees are guilty predators. Its just that some men haven't been caught, while others are simply waiting in the queue to commit the predestined, inevitable, insensitive, sexually inappropriate act.

In this new millennium, "inappropriate" behavior in the workplace occurs whenever an accuser says it occurs, and when frivolous, demeans and devalues truly inappropriate workplace conduct.

If a woman dresses and acts in a provocative way, and a man is successfully provoked into commenting in a predictable way, then he is at fault, should apologize, be fired, and if feasible, flogged.

If a woman employee justifies acts detrimental to your business as due to women being emotional, then men in management should be open-minded in considering valid gender differences in thought and approach. If a man employee attributes a woman colleague's acts detrimental to your business as being due to women being emotional, then he should apologize, be fired, and if feasible, flogged.

The difference between a woman manager and the most precious commodity in business is . . . well . . . there is no difference.

I reject those who commit a blatant act of wrongdoing against my staff or business, and then claim it never happened, or dismiss it as simply a "misunderstanding." Those who commit blatantly wrongful acts should first acknowledge the facts, and then respect me enough to at least lie about the circumstances.

If you routinely miss committee meetings and are unwilling to do any of the work, then you should quit. Remarkably, this principle still applies even if your only contribution to the committee is berating others members about how wrong they are.

Don't chase rabbits; you'll only get stuck in the thicket.

Obsessing on the deficiencies of others while failing to fulfill your own obligations does not define compulsiveness; it defines whatever word best describes why no one wants you around.

I am so glad my misfortune has proven to be to your advantage.

Most people understand the concept: "He who lives in a glass house shouldn't throw stones at others." The confusion arises when people are oblivious as to where they live.

If you always perceive yourself to be a victim, then you will always be what you perceive.

It isn't really a case of "he said, she said" if she's the only one talking.

Those who throw others under the bus should never be allowed to drive the bus.

Some define the point of success when they are entitled to humiliate colleagues in public, rip colleagues in emails for no justifiable reason, and generally treat others as servants.

One of the simple reasons individuals spend so much time at work is because families are complicated.

Anyone compelled to proclaim themselves a "people person," is not.

Yes, I understand others arrive earlier than me, and they work weekends and I don't. But since my life schedule does not allow me to work their hours, it is unfair I don't get to leave as early as they do.

Three rules for bridge building: (1) make sure both foundations are sufficiently exposed; (2) don't make the gap needlessly wider during construction; (3) accept the reality that one side will need more work than the other.

Two options to improve airplane safety: Plan A: Disallow checked-in and carry-on luggage; deny the in-flight use of all electronics; require passengers to pass through body scanners and certify the detailed accuracy of their body parts; force each passengers to disrobe and undergo thorough oral and vaginal/prostate exams as well as colonoscopy; and then bind each unclothed passenger to a crucifix from take-off to landing to prevent them from moving about the cabin, putting anything on their lap, or going to the bathroom. Plan B: Don't let known terrorists bring explosives on the plane.

One business strategy is to let things ride on the chance you will be long gone before the game is over. Another strategy is to strive to be better today than yesterday, and better tomorrow than today. The first strategy is an easy roll of the dice with the objective of cashing out. The second is hard work and sacrifice with the objective of eventual return on an investment. The former is playing at business; the latter is running a business. Process is like potassium to the heart of your business. Not enough results in dangerous asynchronous, chaotic rhythms; too much stops everything and causes corporate rigor mortis.

Adding another layer of process in response to every problem turns a single page into a voluminous encyclopedic compendium; nobody reads voluminous encyclopedic compendiums.

You have reached a critical point of "branding" when less of your time is spent looking for work, and more of your time is spent on work that finds you.

O'Sullivan's First Law: All organizations that are not actually right wing will over time become left wing.

Making assumptions based upon political correctness makes for misguided staffing considerations. Any accurate assessment of the lack of certain groups to advance should include whether members of the group want to advance. For example, when women decline management positions for reasons of family or preference, this is not a sign of societal oppression, nor is it a display of irrational gender weakness. Rather, it is an expression of rational choice.

If you are unwilling to climb the Corporate ladder, then you shouldn't complain about your inability to break through the glass ceiling.

Most women say they would rather work for a man, until a good woman manager is given and accepts the chance to lead. Then most women say they would rather work for a good manager.

If during the lunch break, men spoke the same as women, they would be sued into oblivion.

Among many women in the workplace, the wedding anniversary seems to commemorate the date when a man transitioned from doing no wrong to doing nothing right.

It is sometimes understandable to think a woman employee should "man up." It is rarely wise to tell her.

The times to be cautious with a reporter are when the cameras start or stop, when you are asked to comment on and off the record, when the pre-formed conclusions are true or false, and when the topic pertains to the past, present, or future. Other than these times, you can safely be trusting of a reporter's integrity.

The phrase: “If you didn't document it, it didn't happen” used to convey the need for documentation to avoid credible claims of denial.  It now conveys the need to avoid documentation to allow credible claims of denial.  Particularly regarding matters of potential liability, the squishy, unverifiable “call me” is preferred over the solid, evidentiary written correspondence.  Legal counsel used to recommend everyone document everything; now they recommend no one document anything.   Verifiability is “out”; deniability is “in”.

When old ideas fail, management may proclaim "nothing is off the table." They may encourage you to propose bold new ideas, and "think outside the box." Do not be fooled by this cathartic, yet vacuous validation of supposed open-mindedness towards novel approaches. Because despite all their words, leadership will ultimately direct you to "just get it done" by, at best, allowing you to tweak the same old ideas by working on the same old table within the same old box.

Its OK to reject new ideas - just don't waste other people's time by soliciting them.

Congratulations! After careful consideration of your qualifications, experience, and past success, we have selected you to assist us with this project. We feel the best next step is for us to micromanage what you do, and how you do it.

Each of you has an established record of success with similar projects. Now that we independently decided upon a development plan without your input, we are disappointed you are not meeting your goals. To help resolve your problems, we believe the best solution is to berate your poor performance, and insist you do better.

Although we did not take your advice, we thank you so much for your expert opinion, and continue to value your input. Now that things are not proceeding as anticipated (just as you predicted), we are again seeking your recommendations. Due to the important nature of this project, we are now willing to consider any proposal to move this project forward - as long your proposal does not alter what we have done, only affects you, and adheres to our original plan. Thank you again for all your help, and we look forward to hearing from you soon!

Those with scars have the most intimate knowledge of healing; those who avoided scars never needed healing.

If you want to get a project approved by management, convene a panel of experts who are well-aware they are getting paid for their opinions. In a follow-up meeting, re-invite only those experts who favored your project. Repeat this process until you can truthfully tell management that a group of experts unanimously and enthusiastically supported further development of your project.

Management, time scheduling, and you:

We wanted to give you more than enough time to complete your preparation to start work immediately as scheduled. This is critically important because the high priority and unique time lines of this project.

  • t = - 6 months: Management plans to get everything completed and submitted to you within the next 3 months. The unavoidable delay was due to unanticipated vacations, holidays, staffing turn-over, and weekends (who works on holidays and weekends?). However, this still gives you plenty of time to start as scheduled. This is critically important because the high priority and unique time lines of this project.

  • t = - 3 months: Management plans to get everything completed and submitted to you within the next 8 weeks. The unavoidable delay was due to budgeting and marketing issues. However, this still gives you time to start as scheduled. This is critically important because the high priority and unique time lines of this project.

  • t = - 4 weeks: Management plans to get everything completed and submitted to you within the next 4 weeks. The unavoidable delay was due to "legal" and regulatory issues. This means you will need to rush your preparations so that you can start as soon as possible upon getting the "go-ahead" from management. This is critically important because the high priority and unique time lines of this project.

  • t = 0 weeks: Management plans to get everything completed and submitted to you within the next 2 weeks. The unavoidable delay was due to "supplier" problems. While regrettable you are starting out behind, nothing can be done about that now, and nothing is to be gained by dwelling on the past. Everyone needs to be focused on the future. The bottom-line is that middle management is being pressured by upper management to get this done, and you need to complete your tasks sooner than originally scheduled. Further delays on your part are not acceptable. While regrettable, this is critically important because the high priority and unique time lines of this project.

During down economic cycles, balancing the budget requires a business to re-evaluate priorities and improve efficiency through eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse. This enhances business services and reward when economic cycles improve. When the government fails to balance its budget during times of deficit, it deprives the People a re-examination of priorities, improved efficiency, and fairness. Most of all, it disenfranchises the People by denying them better governance now, and even better government services and benefits when tax revenues recover.

Balancing a budget protects the future. It also protects the past legacy and current pride of an individual, a family, a business, a government, a city, a state, a country and a people.

When government screws up, it rarely implements measures solely meant to fix its own mistakes. Instead, "reform" usually includes punishing citizens who did nothing wrong. Because inflicting pain is how the government makes the people feel they are doing something.

One of the quickest ways to improve governance is to limit all discretionary government spending to a set percent of the yearly budget surplus.

A measurement of your level of engagement is the number of times you are suddenly aroused from sleep, to leave yourself urgent notes, about immediate issues, that should have been resolved long ago, while you were awake.

Major efficiency consulting firms charge as much as $500,000. I charge $5.00. Even without knowing anything about your big business, I can confidently advise that whatever problems exist, they are not the fault of management. Instead: (1) you need to change your logo and website; (2) you need to downsize and redistrict your personnel; and (3) you need to restructure your business model. Finally, if most things are done "in house," then you need to outsource. If most things are outsourced, then you need to do them "in house." I just saved you $499.995.

Needlessly onerous processes are a form of entrapment. Bureaucratic drones who demand pointless busy work share in the guilt when otherwise righteous individuals become incentivized to "bend" the rules, which in turn, makes them more susceptible to breaking the rules.

Last Tuesday at 1 PM ET was the absolute "datalock" deadline wherein no further changes or corrections were permitted. That is because after this time and date, no possibility existed for anyone to make any future edits whatsoever. We appreciate that you and your staff put all else aside to meet our aggressive timelines. However, over the past several weeks, we now find additional edits are necessary. We truly apologize for this inconvenience and ask that you again put everything else aside to answer our additional queries, and meet our newest absolute "datalock" deadline, wherein absolutely no further changes whatsoever are permitted. Thank you for your patience.

You cannot be "pro-job" if you are anti-business.

An anti-business mentality is devastating to the homeless.

Resistance to change is easiest, safest, and largely insulates you from blame from the inevitable decay that precedes the predictable demise. Pursuit of change is hard work, risky, and potentially costly from the inevitable screw-ups that predictably occur during growth and evolution. The choice is an inevitable death or a challenging life.

Self control is not losing it when someone forgives you for something you didn't do.

If your prices are too high, and your quality is poor, then you will lose business and income. One response is to raise your prices even more, in hopes that most of your bills are received by lower level employees who don't care about your high prices or poor quality.

Assumptions by the press regarding the state of the nation is dependent of the political party in power. If Republicans are in power, then the nation is militarily strong, so safe that security measures are excessive, and businesses are doing better than they should. If Democrats are in power, then homelessness, environmental concerns, and the human tragedy of war, unemployment, and poverty no longer exist.

Any activist organization compelled to claim it is nonpartisan, is partisan.

As a mid-level administrator for big business, you likely have dependent small businesses who do not charge by the hour. If you want to implement a new mandatory website or computer system, then it is not necessary, nor is it cost effective to expend your resources to ensure the system works before implementation. It is best to require your vendors to immediately begin using your new systems - ready or not. In this way, you benefit from having your vendors expend their resources (not yours) testing your systems. Most of all, upper management can be re-assured that your new business systems were implemented in a timely manner, and are now officially "online."

Let's say upper management's timelines puts pressure on you to be more efficient. To avoid being held to the same standards you expect of your vendors, one option is to demand your vendors complete their tasks within an unreasonable amount of time after you finally get things to them. If you are already doing this, then another option is to issue documented mandates, demanding your vendors complete their tasks before you get things to them. While logistically impossible for them to comply, using this approach, the record will ultimately show it was your vendors who failed to complete their tasks within the desired time period.

If you are big business, tell your small business vendors of your stellar commitment to privacy. Then insist your vendors sign an Agreement wherein you have carte blanche freedom to share your vendors' corporate records, birth dates, social security numbers, passport numbers, and dental records with anyone of your choosing, for whatever purpose, without their review, without their consent, without their approval, and entirely at your discretion.

In order to save me time, please call my assistant to schedule time to meet with me, about a project that benefits me, at a time convenient for me. Thanks!

Thank you for taking your time to call my assistant to rearrange your schedule, at my request, so you could meet with me, at a time best for me, about a project that benefits me. Unfortunately, I find it is no longer convenient for me to meet at the time I said I was available, and at the time I scheduled. Please call my assistant to schedule another time to meet with me, at a time more convenient for me. Thank you again for your understanding of my busy schedule, and I look forward to me speaking with you.

Thank you for agreeing to do me a favor. To ensure you do the best job for me, it would be best for me if you would call me at my convenience so I can tell you exactly what I want. You may be put on hold when you call me about doing a favor for me. If so, then please stay on the line and be assured I will answer as soon as convenient for me. Thank you so much for helping me get what I want.

I apologize for not showing up for our scheduled meeting. I understand that I requested this meeting that only benefitted me; I know I asked you volunteer to meet with me without pay; and I recognize I did not notify you I would not show up until well after the meeting was to have started. Nonetheless, it would be best for me if you would volunteer to meet with me again at a time better for me. If you choose not to meet, then please know I will think you an unreasonable and arrogant jerk for not understanding my importance, and my busy schedule.

Thank you for arranging your travel schedule and canceling other opportunities to meet with us during the upcoming meeting, at our request, for our benefit, and without reimbursement or pay. Unfortunately, something more important for us has arisen at the last minute, and we are no longer able to meet with you at the scheduled time and at the place we chose. We apologize for the inconvenience. Would you have any other time to meet? We truly value your time, and hope to hear from you soon!

I apologize for sending you an inflammatory email, falsely accusing you of failing to do your task. I did so because I suspected some of your colleagues did not do what I asked within the timelines I wanted. Therefore, the easiest approach for me was to send an accusatory blast email to everyone. Requiring you as the the falsely accused to take your time to respond to me was easier than for me to have taken the time to ensure the accusatory email was only sent to those for which the email applied.

We previously asked on meet on dates best for you. Now that you took the time to provide us dates, we find what we really meant is for you to agree to meet on days best for us. We are sorry for your confusion.

I am not sure if my life is an experience, a lesson, or a test. But when I experience a life lesson, I am quite sure I am not the only one being tested.

If you are stressed by entrusting your fate to doctors and lawyers, try dealing with building contractors.

Destiny is pathed by bridges built, less bridges burned.

News "reporters" destined for nothingness are those so needy of peer-approval that they define "objectivity" through negativism, and measure "success" through the extent by which they harm innocents via vile exploitation of the privileges of the First Amendment.

It is unfortunate I irreparably harmed you by my errors. The good news is that through this experience, I may be less likely to harm someone else the same way in the future.

Good governance is a balance between doing things, and keeping things from being done.

I believe something actually gets done, only about a year after it actually got done.

I could be more understanding, if I better understood.

Opinions are more valuable when they are truthful.

Regarding a problem that arose while I was having a bad dream, I sent myself an e-mail so I could to deal with with it in the morning, as I really wasn't in the most effective position to fix it while I was sleeping.

In contrast to government, if small business policies fail, then it is the small business who pays the price, not the customers.

When business fails, the market has concluded the policies were wrong. When government fails, the politicians conclude the policies were not extreme enough.

Compulsiveness is sleeping better knowing you stayed up all night ensuring everything got done.

I tried to fix my mistake that harmed you; so you should thank me.

Life would be easier, if not for the living.

I spend half my time preparing to be twice as efficient.

Audits improve perfection.

The good thing about internal audits is they find things. The bad thing about internal audits is they find things.

As an external auditor, you are in a unique position to either throw them a rope, or string them up.

I find I play better when I know the rules.

It is extraordinary to me the degree by which the geopolitical powerplays of a few madmen can affect the everyday lives of so many regular folks.

Never conduct business in an open hallway.

If they ask you a question you are unprepared to answer, it is a sign of experience and strength to wait to get back to them.  It is a a sign of inexperience and weakness to answer a question before being prepared, forcing the inevitable retraction.

Luck is an opportunity accepted.

You have achieved success when time means more than money.

As an employee, I need a flexible work schedule; when we are not busy, my employment, pay, and benefits should not be affected, and no one should ever be terminated. As a Manager, you should be immediately available 24/7 for my needs; when I am busy, you should hire more people to do work I don't want to do.

Vacation travelers prioritize life experiences; business travelers prioritize home.

I have little experience regarding your circumstance, and I don't know what happened. But because I am removed from the situation, I have a better vantage point to advise you on how you mishandled things.

Because I was not around when the turmoil occurred, nor played any role in fixing it, I believe I am in the best position to encourage everyone to be positive and just move forward.

Wisdom from a child:

  • Toddler and self identification: "My name is no, I said no."
  • Younger child and punishment: "If you are going to ground me 'for good,' what will you do to me 'for bad' ?"
  • Child on understanding: "Maybe I should not have rubbed my warty foot in your face; but you need to learn to be more forgiving."
  • Older child and games: "Here's a name for a game: does dad's arm go that way?"

Why do I rob banks? Its where the money is." (Author: Jesse James)

We will no longer be sending documents for you to simply sign and return within minutes. Instead, because complex and newer technologies are always better than simpler and more established methods, we are now requiring you be assigned a username, to go to a website, establish a web account, create a password, login, and then try to download the document. When this doesn't work, you will need to contact the web vendor and/or technical support, be put on hold, and then try again. After only a few days of futility and frustration, we fully anticipate you will eventually be successful in downloading the document. You will then need to e-sign the document and upload it to our server. Once you have completed these tasks, then please take more of your time to notify us when you have completed this process. Thank you for helping us better use technology that should make things more efficient for everyone.

Three steps when mishaps occur: (1) minimize the problem by avoiding drama, acknowledging the error, and (briefly) apologizing for the mistake; (2) promptly fix things and implement change to help avoid the same problem from happening again; and then (3) move on.

A workaholic is someone who feels guilty working on a project, because it takes away from working on another project.

Achieving success is not always convenient.

Discouraging employees from giving maximum effort to validate your compassion is a flawed plan, especially when you subsequently have to fire them.

I never quit a job because someone offered me more money.

If a woman employee makes a mistake that harms the business, and cries, then the boss is a jerk.

Because you invested more and worked harder than others, this afforded you greater opportunities. So in the interest of fairness, we must now implement preference policies that favor those who did not invest as much or work as hard as you, because they were not afforded as many opportunities.

A crisis often presents the best opportunity to succeed.

Unless you are evil, having haters means you are relevant.

True, I wasted your time when I falsely accused you of being wrong; but it would be a waste of my time to confirm you were right.

The reason speakers from the south can be so effective, is they speak slow enough that people can hear their scars.

Government and business policies are respectively based upon what is presumed fair and what is presumed best. For government, policies that stagnate incomes are fair as long as both poor and rich have no increase in income. For business, policies that increase all incomes are best, even if the increase in income for the rich exceeds the income for the poor.

Acts of kindness need not be complicated.

When invited to a meeting, it is better to be annoyingly persistent about what the meeting is about, rather than annoyingly unprepared after the meeting has begun.

Standard Operating Procedures make me tired.

Evil does not require understanding.

In retrospect, my opinion was not well thought-out, nor supported by any reasonably objective review of the facts. But since my opinion is now documented. If I changed my opinion now, then this would give the appearance I caved into pressure or was simply inept. So irrespective of how biased and uninformed, and no matter how adverse the impact upon others, my opinion cannot ethically be changed.

The reason we are requesting a meeting is not for the purpose of pressuring you to change your mind about your documented opinion; this would be unethical. Instead, our intent is simply to gain a better "understanding" of your opinion. We do this through the mind-numbing and punitive process of asking countless questions that will mercifully end immediately end after you change your opinion to one more to our liking. At the least, we are hopeful this meeting experience will be so onerous that it will factor into your future opinions.

Upon making the dubious decision to bring a temperamental infant on a flight, do not withhold food or comforts when the child predictably begins to scream. An enclosed plane cabin full of paying customers is not the place to teach life lessons to a shrieking child.

Do not leave phone messages of substance. Voice recordings misinterpreted as bombshells often blow-up.

Achieving lifetime depth often involves enduring daily shallowness.

Everything happens for a reason; sometimes the reason is to inflict pain.

If you make a horrible mistake, then you should find no absolution in that at some point in history, someone else made the same horrible mistake.

Yes, what I did wrong cost you a small fortune. However, I am only human; you should focus on what I did right.

Littering is a voluntary, reckless, and selfish act, which usually involves liquor bottles, beer cans, cigarette packs, cigarette butts, fast-food bags, lottery tickets and . . . sadly . . . diapers.

Politics is the pursuit of status quo nothingness, with the expectation of receiving accolades for what was serendipitously accomplished.

Compared to those who do play by the rules, too much attention is paid to those who do not play by the rules, solely because they do not play by the rules.

As middle management, delegate as many processes as possible. Not only will this lighten your workload, but it will allow you to claim credit when things go right, and defer blame when things go wrong.

When something bad happens, the dilemma is deciding whether you are cursed because of something you did, or blessed because it could have been worse.

If you are a paid employee for a not-for-profit organization that relies on volunteers, then you should not be held accountable for work you get paid to do, as this would be unseemly for an organization that relies upon volunteers.

If your invited project is submitted early, then your project will undergo more scrutiny and elicit more requests for change. If your invited project is submitted late, then it will be streamlined towards approval, generating less work for you.

Yes, thank you for completing your work early. Since we had plenty of time, we had a greater opportunity to review and request the following massive changes. No, your colleagues will not need to make the same degree of changes, That is because they were late in completing their work; they are really busy.

Others would not agree to complete this project within our tight timelines. That is why we are so appreciative you completed the project early. Since we still have more time before the deadline, then you clearly have the time to solely dedicate to this project, and we are therefore requesting you do even more work, without additional pay or benefits.

Before you quit because of their disrespect in withhold what you deserve, tell them what you want.

You should not quit until you are sure you don't want to do it anymore.

Having a high degree of faith in others is both a great weakness, and a great strength.

Instability at the bottom can tumble the top; instability at the top can bollix the bottom.

Company audits can be good; government audits, not so much.

Sometimes the greatest perk for your best employees is to ensure all employees are held accountable.

When I don't want to do my job, I give 18 different reasons why it can't be done. At worst, I end up doing my job anyway. At best, I sufficiently wear them down so someone else will do it.

If I ran my business the way you run your business, then I would be out of business.

My success is driven by anticipating how to avoid doing bad things to others, while anticipating how others will do bad things to me.

Definition of Lost Opportunity: Create a quality product of high interest and value. Gather the very best management and staff. Spend millions/billions/trillions of dollars in facilities, research, development, and advertisement. Then pay minimum wages to employees with no incentive to succeed, marginal people skills, and limited communication abilities, to interface with customers.

I better understand when I believe; I believe when I better understand.

To some, those who are willing to work harder and sacrifice more are at an unfair life advantage, and are thus obligated to work even harder and sacrifice even more for those who do not work and do not sacrifice, and who are therefore at a life disadvantage.

When answering a question, never tell a mother her baby is ugly.

Thank you for promptly responding to our request you volunteer honest feedback. Unfortunately, because you did not agree with everything we suggested, we are moving forward with other experts, who either were more objective in agreeing with us, or who ignored our request for a response.

Thank you for voluntarily making substantial changes, based upon my suggestions. Although not mandatory and in no way intended to micromanage your project, I am curious why you did not incorporate every detail of my suggestions.

I am clear on God and the Universe; but a bit hazy on heaven and the afterlife.

Faith is worshiping God without the promise of heaven.

Faith is worshiping God without the assumption righteousness is rewarded and evil punished.

I have never found it useful to bargain with God.

What is the relationship between intelligence and having a soul? What is the relationship of consciousness and heaven?

While it may influence where to invest, deciding wether to invest should not be determined by the political party of a US President.

A time-tested solution to fix cash flow problems is to "lose" invoices. At best, some of your vendors will not re-submit for payment. At worst, payments to your vendors will simply be delayed.

Sometimes the "perfect" plan, is not the best plan.

Given how hard I work, compared to everyone else, I am entitled to spend company time, complaining to everyone else, multiple times per day, about how I work so much, more than everyone else.

A horrible event is curiously described as being "lucky," if it could have been worse, or if it prevented some other horrible event.

Give me a chance; give me a chance; give me a chance. Now that you have given me a chance, and before I have actually done anything, how much more money are you going to give me for you giving me a chance?

In life, the Golden Rule is a noble aspiration. In business, the Diamond Rule applies wherein the objective is to do unto others, better than you would have them do unto you.

The philosophies of capitalism and "free markets" refer to private ownership of commerce. Neither apply to the principle that the greatest monetary rewards should favor those who work the hardest, or who are most deserving. In a capitalistic society, monetary rewards most often favor those who, within a free market, specifically work at making money - which is an inequity both Conservatives and Liberals refuse to admit they agree upon.

We are sorry for sending you the accusatory email. However, whenever a problem arises, we find it more efficient to blame everyone collectively, before taking the time to determine if the accusation is true, before determining the individuals who may be at fault, and before determining if the fault is ours.

The three times employees most complain of being stressed is when they haven't been on a vacation, before they go on vacation, when they return from vacation.

Doing a favor for someone says something about both of you.

Sometimes, doing favors can crush relationships.

For a small business that pays its bills, a reliable measure of the strength of a business is how much the owner is getting paid. The more the owner is getting paid, generally means greater job security for employees.

Employees well understand how "income must exceed expenses" applies to them personally, but cannot fathom how it applies to their employer.

With regard to my professional life, I want to be recognized for my sentinel contributions. With regard to my personal life, I want to back out unnoticed.

Failure: I am too busy now; I am consumed about being too busy tomorrow, and can't even think about 3 months from now.
Success: I am busy now; I want to be busy tomorrow, and will do whatever it takes to be busy 3 months from now.

It is faulty, to fault others, for finding fault with your work, when your work is faulty.

Never let employees pick yearly paid holidays. Inevitably, employees will choose non-traditional holidays with the calculation they will not only get paid time off for the non-traditional holidays, but also get off the traditional holidays as well.

You are 100% right; he is 100% wrong. You have gone the extra mile; he has moved further away. But if you would just compromise by doing whatever he wants, then this would all go away, and make our lives much easier.

Once the egregious acts of the the person who wronged you become an inconvenience to others, then you become the problem.

Negotiations is not the art of one side moving to accept less, while the other side moves towards demanding more. Convergence met by divergence is not the intent of "movement is needed on both sides."

When "compromise" is defined as you doing whatever makes the problem go away, then "right" and "wrong" no longer have relevance.

Miscommunication is the lack of clarity; lying is the lack of truth.

Government and big business find safe harbor when small business owners threaten legalities; they simply ship the problem to the fixed cost legal crew they already have onboard, while the small business owner becomes awash in a sea of unbudgeted legal expenses.

While incorrect, unfortunately, you are right.

If not for drowning, I would better appreciate the fishes.

I live in a world of intentional naiveté, wherein I default towards believing the best in others.  I find it is a good life, except when those who claim to be my closest friends, stab me in the back and then spit on my cold dead rotting corpse.

Ours is not a corporate culture of simple acquisitive aggregation of vacuous market segmentation.  Instead, our corporate ecosystem is a global and holistic one, based upon accountability management, and authenticity in our customer-centric commitment to best practices.  Our pipeline is guided by innovation, evidenced-based content, quality, and value.  Our best-in-class branding begins with integrity and compliance consistent with our core competencies.  Our commercialization action items harness our uberhierarchical resources towards the goaltask of consumer alignment and demand creation.  Through content delivery platforms, geotargeting story-telling, leveraged optics, and empowerment processing, we generate universal, yet personalized content, which is critical towards the translation of accountability metrics, content performance, and key performance indicators.  In fact, the very foundation for the conceptual moniker of our corporate identity is built upon our engagement in market environment multisensing, such as social media listening, visualization, tactilization, and vocalization, which all culminate in social activation and social actualization.  Our collective dexterity in exploiting this primordial native advertising is achieved not by createalytics, but rather via data-drive real time analytics.  In short, our marketing dashboard is multi-level, integrated, and contextualized through the upskill expertise of our cross-functional team.  Because it is only through originative modeling to address unmet needs that we are able to target and engage the relevant stakeholders active in this space.  This would include our BtoB collaborators, venture capitalists, shared decision-making partners, and most of all, our customers, who have every expectation that we plan to succeed, and not just survive.

Your worth as a human being is measured by the degree you affect the lives of others.

Three weeks ago was a paid holiday where I had a three day weekend. I then went on a two week paid vacation, followed by another weekend off. But now that I am back to work, I would like to know why we aren't hiring more staff. After taking so much time off for paid holidays and vacations, I fear my workload will increase.
